About the Winery / Region

Louis Roederer is one of Champagne’s greatest dynasties,  a rare family-owned house founded in 1776 and still guided by the same pursuit of excellence nearly 250 years later. Unlike most major Champagne houses, Roederer owns the vast majority of the vineyards used for its top cuvées, allowing complete control over fruit quality, farming and terroir expression.

Cristal is sourced exclusively from Roederer’s oldest estate vineyards, all located in the region’s most prestigious grand cru villages, including Aÿ, Avize, Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Verzenay. These chalk-rich soils impart the trademark tension, minerality and crystalline purity for which Cristal is world famous.

Since the early 2000s, Roederer has pioneered biodynamic viticulture in Champagne, converting all Cristal vineyards to full biodynamic certification. This meticulous, labour-intensive approach enhances vine health, soil vitality and fruit precision, a key factor in Cristal’s exceptional finesse and longevity.
