Shadowfax Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir 2024 is a beautifully polished cool climate Pinot with plenty of flavour, but still that lightness and freshness that makes Macedon Pinot so appealing. Dark cherry and cranberry lead the way, with spice, florals and a little savoury complexity underneath.

It is medium bodied, supple and juicy, with fine tannins and lovely acidity giving the wine shape without making it feel firm or heavy. Rose, cardamom, sandalwood, dried herbs and a touch of forest floor add interest, while the red fruit stays bright and fresh through the finish.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Dark cherry, cranberry, rose, cardamom, sandalwood and subtle forest floor.

Palate: Medium bodied and silky with red cherry, cranberry, gentle spice, bright acidity and beautifully fine tannins.

Finish: Long and fresh with lingering cherry, dried herbs, spice and a soft savoury edge.

Nothing much to report because this is perfect to drink now. If you must know, it’s supple and soft with beautifully fine tannins, plenty of cherry accents (including pips), and it's spicy and juicy with lithe acidity. About The Winery

Shadowfax is a boutique Victorian producer established in 2000, with a strong focus on wines that reflect the vineyards and regions they come from. The winery works particularly closely with fruit from the Macedon Ranges, where high altitude and cool conditions are ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The 2024 Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir comes from multiple vineyard sites across the region, giving the wine a lovely mix of fragrance, fruit and savoury complexity. It is a great example of modern Macedon Pinot: elegant and detailed, but still really enjoyable to drink.

Cellaring Potential

Shadowfax Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir 2024 is drinking beautifully now, especially if you enjoy silky, fragrant Pinot Noir. Its fine tannins and bright acidity should also see it develop nicely over the next six to eight years under good storage conditions.

Collector’s Note

With 95 points from Jane Faulkner at Halliday Wine Companion and 94 points from Gary Walsh at The Wine Front, the 2024 Shadowfax Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir is a particularly strong release. It offers excellent value for a highly rated cool climate Victorian Pinot and is well worth putting a few bottles aside.
