Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is a flagship Margaret River red from the historic Wallcliffe Vineyard, delivering classic Cabernet perfume, depth and serious tannin architecture. It’s refined and tightly framed, with dark fruit intensity and savoury complexity built to evolve beautifully over time.

Handpicked fruit was berry sorted before fermentation of 30 days on skins; 18 months in French oak (50% new). This is a glorious cabernet, its blackcurrant, cedar and spice bouquet leading into a seamless, perfectly balanced palate with cassis and redcurrant fruit framed by cedary oak. Tasting Notes

Aroma: Blackcurrant and mulberry with violets, rolled tobacco, wet slate and cocoa.
Palate: Powerful yet elegant red and black currants, liquorice and cedar/tobacco notes with fine, assertive tannins.
Finish: Long, dry and savoury with persistent cassis, cedar spice and structured grip.

Food Pairing / Serving Suggestions

Serve at 16to 18°C and decant 30 to 60 minutes to let the aromatics and structure unfurl.

Founded in 1970 by David Hohnen (with brothers Mark and Giles), Cape Mentelle is one of Margaret River’s pioneering estates, with Cabernet Sauvignon at the heart of its identity especially from the Wallcliffe site planted in the early years.
