The 2018 Chapelle Saint Theodoric "Le Grand Pin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an exquisite expression of old-vine Grenache from the famed sandy soils of the Pignan lieu-dit. Pale to medium ruby in colour, it opens with an alluring bouquet of crushed red berries, wild strawberry, and cherry, interwoven with floral notes of rose petal and lavender. Subtle hints of garrigue, crushed herbs, and wet stone lend aromatic complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and remarkably elegant, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity providing finesse and lift. The purity of fruit shines through—redcurrant and raspberry dominate, followed by a savoury undertone of earth, white pepper, and dried herbs. The finish is long, graceful, and perfumed, echoing the wine’s floral and mineral character. A beautifully transparent, Burgundy-like Châteauneuf, best enjoyed over the next 10–15 years.
