Sorrenberg Cabernet Blend 2024 is a beautifully balanced Beechworth red with plenty of depth, but it never feels heavy. Blackcurrant and blackberry sit at the heart of the wine, with white pepper, spice and a little savoury detail adding complexity. The tannins are fine and silky, giving the wine a polished feel from start to finish.

The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc and Merlot adding perfume and softness, plus smaller amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. It has a rich mouthfeel, but there is still plenty of freshness and balance, making it a Cabernet blend that is already very enjoyable now while still having the structure to age well.

Palate: Medium to full bodied with dark berry fruit, rich texture and beautifully fine silky tannins.

About The Winery

Sorrenberg is one of Beechworth’s benchmark small producers, established in 1984 by Barry and Jan Morey. The vineyard sits at around 560 metres above sea level on granitic soils just outside Beechworth, with the cool climate helping the wines hold onto freshness and balance.

The estate is tiny, around three hectares, and has been certified biodynamic since 2008. Sorrenberg has built a loyal following for wines that are detailed, elegant and full of character, with Cabernet blends playing an important part in the range.

The 2024 vintage was warm enough to give the Bordeaux varieties excellent ripeness, but the fruit still held onto freshness and balance. The result is a Cabernet blend with richness, perfume and finesse rather than sheer power.

Cellaring Potential

Sorrenberg Cabernet Blend 2024 is drinking beautifully now with a little air, but it has excellent potential to develop further. A cellaring window of around 10 to 15 years is very realistic under good storage conditions.
