Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz 2022 750ml

The 2022 Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz is a compelling expression of Barossa Valley winemaking, crafted exclusively from old-vine Shiraz sourced from the renowned Ebenezer sub-region. With vines aged between 35 and 120 years, this vintage showcases the depth and character that heritage vines produce.

Glaetzer Bishop is a true expression of old-vine Barossa Shiraz is subtle yet expressive on the nose, with black cherries, dried spice and licorice. Then it’s bright and complex with a wonderful rich mid-palate that maintains balance and finishes with texture. Flavours of dark plum and blackberry fused with dark chocolate and dried spice. Appearance: Deep, vibrant dark cherry with purple hues.

Aroma: Subtle yet generous, featuring notes of black cherries and dried spices.

Palate: A full-bodied wine with layers of black cherry, assorted berries, olive, and black pepper. The smooth and supple texture is complemented by brightness and balanced tannins, leading to a long, elegant finish. 

Winemaking Details
The wine underwent fermentation in 1 and 2-tonne open fermenters, with extended maceration to develop soft, approachable tannins. It was matured for 16 months in French oak hogshead barrels, 40% of which were new, and the remainder aged 2–3 years. 

While approachable now, the 2022 Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz is expected to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years, offering enhanced complexity with age.

The 2022 vintage has been well-received by critics:

• Ken Gargett awarded it 94 points, noting its "serious concentration" and "excellent length."

• Ray Jordan also rated it 94 points, describing it as "rich and lavish" with "depth and concentration."
