Onannon Mornington Chardonnay 2025 brings together fruit from Tuerong, Merricks North, Shoreham and Flinders, giving you a very good snapshot of what modern Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay is all about.

Yellow nectarine and fresh citrus lead the way, with lemon zest, orchard fruit and subtle spice adding complexity. The palate is juicy and rounded, with plenty of texture balanced by bright acidity and a savoury mineral edge. It has flavour and generosity without wandering into the big, buttery Chardonnay territory of years gone by.

This is Chardonnay for those who want freshness and precision but still expect some actual fruit in the glass. Lean is fine. Anaemic is not.

It also works beautifully with creamy pasta and soft cheeses. There is enough texture to handle richer dishes, while the citrus and acidity keep everything fresh.

About The Winery

Onannon was established in 2008 by Will Byron, Kaspar Hermann and Sam Middleton after the three met while working at Coldstream Hills. Will Byron later made Onannon his sole winemaking focus, developing an increasingly detailed range of Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

In 2026 the winery entered a new chapter, with Pete Finnegan of Tuerong's Robinson Vineyard joining Byron as co owner and Onannon establishing a permanent home at the vineyard.

The regional Chardonnay draws from several Mornington Peninsula subregions rather than trying to make everything taste like one vineyard. Considering how much Chardonnay people drink while discussing individual vineyard sites, that seems refreshingly sensible.

The 2025 is drinking beautifully now for its fresh nectarine, citrus and lively acidity.
