Experience the elegance of Loire Valley Malbec with the 2016 Supernova from Domaine des Grandes Espérances. Crafted from 30-year-old vines rooted in clay-loam soils in Touraine, this 100% Malbec wine showcases the region's unique terroir and the winery's commitment to quality. Hand-harvested grapes undergo meticulous fermentation in stainless steel tanks, featuring twice-daily pump-overs during the first week, followed by gentle cap management to extract optimal colour and flavour without excessive tannins. The wine is then aged for 12 months in seasoned oak barrels, previously used for 3 to 4 vintages, allowing for subtle oak integration without overpowering the fruit.
In the glass, Supernova 2016 reveals a vibrant purple hue. The nose is complex, offering aromas of cherry, peony, and spices, with a slight animal character adding depth. On the palate, it is supple and delicious, contrasting with its South of France counterparts. The wine's lovely structure is supported by tight yet fine tannins, culminating in a nice, interesting finish.
