May 10 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Winery: Glaetzer-Dixon (Tasmania)
On Offer: Uberblanc Riesling (2018), Avance Pinot Noir (2018)
Special: Riesling: $24.99 Pinot Noir: $26.99
Background: The Glaetzer family’s origins date back to Barossa Valley in 1888. Nick Glaetzer departed the warm, southern-costal climate of South Australia several years ago on a quest to perfect cooler-climate Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Riesling. As a result, Nick and his wife, Sally (nee’ Dixon) created the Glaetzer-Dixon Family Company in Hobart, Tasmania, in 2008.
Accolades: Glaetzer-Dixon 2010 Mon Pere Shiraz was awarded the prestigious Jimmy Watson Memorial ropy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show – the first time in the trophy’s 50-year history for a Tasmanian wine.
Our thoughts on the vintages… The ’17 vintage Pinot Noir was a popular choice amongst our Pinot-lovers; the ’17 was a dryer vintage, producing smaller yields which brought upon greater power and complexity to the wine. There was an overt spiciness to this Pinot. In comparison, the ’18 vintage exhibits bright fruit with an underlying silkiness; elegance is its identifying feature.
Colour: Deep maroon colour with a purple hue.
Nose: Aromatic violets, blueberries and strawberries, with hints of anise.
Palate: Explosive flavours of ripe cherry, strawberry conserve and plum.
Finish: Subtle spice does carry through the length of the wine, but the tannins are silky.
Cellar: Now, or over the next 3-5 years
